Abstract: In contrast to the situation for positive scalar curvature, the topological implications of positive Ricci curvature for closed simply connected manifolds are not well understood.

In this talk I will report on joint work with David Wraith where we prove the existence of metrics with positive Ricci curvature on a large class of highly connected (4k -1)-manifolds. In particular, we show that all 2-connected 7-manifolds, and all 4-connected 11-manifolds, admit Ricci positive metrics.
