  • Actions of discrete groups on compact spaces have been important for recent progress on the Borel conjecture. In this talk I will review Borel's conjecture on the topological rigidity of aspherical manifolds and discuss the role of actions on compact spaces. This leads to a regularity condition for such actions that strengthens amenability.
