Abstract: In this talk I will explain basic concepts of contact geometry, mainly through simple examples. After that we turn to the notions of positivity and positive loops which, even though easy to define, have several non-trivial aspects to them. For instance, I will explain a generalization of the Bott-Samelson theorem in this context and talk about existence and non-existence results for (contractible) positive loops.
