In this talk we will discuss Martin Olbrich's method to compute l²-invariants of locally symmetric spaces, namely the Plancherel formula and relative (g, K)-cohomology. I will briefly talk about the basics of Lie groups and correct one constant in the paper of Olbrich regarding the computation of l²-torsion. If time permits, I will explain further applications of the method in the computation of l²-torsion with twisted coefficients and the work of Bergeron and Venkatesh on strongly acyclic representations.
