The ultimate goal of this talk is to establish Property (T) for the group SL3(Z), following the original proof of Kazhdan. However, this is mostly an excuse to learn about some classical techniques, which are useful to establish Property (T) (and other analytic properties) for lattices in Lie groups. These techniques include in particular Mautner’s lemma, relative Property (T) and cocycle induction.
