  • Abstract

Given a group, we would like to describe the space of actions on the real line by homeomorphisms, up to semi-conjugacy. A relevant class of actions are those admitting an invariant lamination, namely a closed subset of the space of bounded open intervals of the line, containing an interval whose orbit exhausts the line, and such that any two intervals are either nested or disjoint. For such actions, we can obtain information on the dynamics of single elements by looking at the induced action on the dual tree. Such actions arise naturally when considering solvable groups or groups like Thompson's F. This talk is based on joint project with J Brum, N Matte Bon and C Rivas.
