The homological Dehn functions of Leary’s groups

  • Abstract: Homological Dehn functions extend the concept of homotopical Dehn functions to groups that, while not necessarily finitely presented, satisfy certain homological finiteness conditions. While there can only be countably many finitely presented and hence homotopical Dehn functions, there are uncountably many groups admitting a homologically finite presentation. In 2018, Leary introduced a construction demonstrating this fact. In this talk, we introduce Leary's groups and explore methods developed by Brady, Kropholler, and Soroko for computing their homological Dehn functions, as well as how these methods can be extended to produce analogous results for higher-dimensional homological Dehn functions.
