Reidemeister torsions on 3 manifolds character varieties and incompressible surfaces

  • In this talk I will present the objects of my PhD thesis : Reidemeister torsion and character varieties.
    In a first part I will try to explain how the Reidemeister torsion can be studied globally on the SL(2,C) character variety of a 3-manifold. Then I will focus on the study of its zeros and poles, more precisely I will explain how I have used the Culler-Shalen theory associated to ideal points of the character variety to relate the vanishing order of the Reidemeister torsion with the topology of some dual incompressible surfaces.
