Open Position: PhD Student

We invite applications for a

PhD position

at the Department of Mathematics, as part of the research group in Topology and Geometric Group Theory led by Prof. Dr. Roman Sauer. The starting date for the advertised position is April 2026. Payment is according to the collective wage agreement for public service (TV-L), salary level E13. Funding is available for a duration of 3 years. Teaching duties comprise four hours per week during the teaching periods (mid-October to early February and mid-April to the end of July). The PhD student will benefit from a variety of qualification programs, including advanced and tailor-made courses. An intensive visitor program will contribute to a vibrant scientific environment.

We are seeking PhD applicants with an excellent Master's degree (or equivalent) in mathematics or theoretical physics. The applicant should show a high engagement and have a strong theoretical background in one of the research areas topology, metric geometry, or geometric group theory. A good command of the English language but no knowledge of German is required.
